CANDY! What will you be giving to the spooks this year?

Posted in Holidays, Things Steve Enjoys! with tags , , , , , on October 29, 2011 by Steve Stones Art

There’s no doubt about it, little trick-or-treaters are adorable! If you have children, you’ll likely enjoy the annual evening parade with them.  If not, you may find yourself hiding from the neighborhood kids,  going to a party, or answering the door!

But what happened to scary? Thanks to the glamorization of mainstream Hollywood, Halloween is becoming less about candy, and more about eye candy. Ladies may feel dismayed while faced with the task of finding a suitable costume. Many of the costume selections seem rather inappropriate to be wearing while answering the door, let alone while passing out candy to little kids.  One thing that can be said about Halloween, it’s the one holiday that grandma can dress up like a Bond babe and get away with it due to the scare factor.

Aside from eye candy, what kind of candy will you be giving out this Halloween?

Carnival Of Chaos Now Open For Business!

The opening season of Carnival of Chaos, a new haunted house located at the old Wal-Mart building on Riverdale Road, began last Friday. Hours to the spook alley are from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays, and from 7 p.m. to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

Proceeds from Carnival of Chaos benefit Children’s Service Society, an organization that began serving the community over a century ago. Children’s Service Society provides guidance to families in need of counseling and support, and also assists in placement of children.

Although the season is already underway, additional volunteers are needed to lend their talents. Facilitator Andrew Wilson states, “We are always looking for good actors and others who are willing to volunteer their time. We need builders, set designers, costume people and leads.”

Themes of the haunted house will hopefully include a large man who will be paid to act the role of a glutton. If you or anyone you know would like to participate, please contact Wilson to arrange for an interview or an audition.
